Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

I have taken three major trainings in Hypnosis as well a a number of supplementary courses, plus a specialist course in a highly effective way of stopping people smoking.

Having said that, I do not very often use formal hypnosis during therapy or coaching sessions, although many of the techniques I use could justifiably be labelled as ‘eyes open’ hypnotic techniques. Interestingly in Paul McKenna’s Sky TV series ‘I can change your life’ where he dealt with people with a very wide range of problems, he only used formal hypnosis on about one person in three, and even then, from knowing how he works, it was clear to me that he was using it to ‘glue in’ changes he had already made. Otherwise, he was using the same ‘eyes open’ techniques of NLP that I use.

Many people have a mistaken idea about hypnosis and think that by the magical snap of a finger, it can change them into someone they are not and get rid of all their problems without them having to do anything towards it or take any responsibility for their lives. It is powerful, but it does not give brain or personality transplants.

What is true is that Hypnosis is a superb way (though not the only way) of accessing the wonderful power of your unconscious mind. You cannot be made to do anything that you don’t want through hypnosis, but if you really want something, hypnosis will help to focus your mind so you are far more likely to get it. In this way, it really can bring about surprising miraculous changes in people’s lives.
